Edward Newgate (Whitebeard) Biography

Whitebeard is known as the only man that could draw with the late Pirate King, Gold Roger. He and his crew fought many, many battles with Roger more than twenty years ago. After Roger died, the unquestioned dominion of the sea fell into his hands.

Some time ago, he visited Fishman Island and declared the land his own property. Effectively liberating the island from the terror it was subject to due to. Terror such as kidnappings, slavery and the pirates that had to pass through Fishman Island to get to the New World.

Two or three years ago, he met Ace when Ace was fighting Jimbei. He abducted Ace and the rest of the Spade Pirates onto his crew against their will.

Appearance

Whitebeard is an enormously large human, easily a few times larger than the average man. He boasts a huge white mustache, earning him his nickname. He is often seen sitting on a chair in the middle of the deck of his ship, the Moby Dick, hooked up to medical equipment. Despite all this, he still drinks sake by the barrel. He is seen wearing a white captains coat at all times.

Personality

Although he appeared to be arrogant and self-absorbed at first, more recent revelations have shown us his true nature. He considers not only his own crew-members, but all those allied with him, his own children. He For just one of his children, he is willing to wage war with the government itself. He is respected by many people because he considers these "children" a part of his family and would do anything for them. Although he doesn't show it, he knows his own weaknesses, saying he can't be the strongest forever and that even he is just one man, with one heart. His loves his son to the point where he even forgave one of them for attempting to kill him.

Strength

After Roger died, no one could even hope to equal Whitebeard. He holds the title of the strongest man in the world. A few years back, Ace, who was offered a position in the Schichbukai, tried to kill Whitebeard more than a hundred times. He failed each and every time, even when he tried to attack Whitebeard from behind or while asleep.

Whitebeard ate the Gura Gura no mi, and became a quakeman. He can quake anything, including the air itself. He can cause earthquakes so strong they can be felt on other islands. He is also capable of causing sea-quakes and Tsunamis.

He also carries a spear like weapon called a Bisento, but has only been seen actually using it to fight once. He clashed his weapon against Shanks' sword, the result of which caused the clouds themselves to move.
